Anthony P. Hahn, 83, passed away at Peace Hospice in Great Falls on October 27, 2016 after a lengthy illness. His memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Community Bible Church in Fort Benton. The family has suggested memorials be made to Peace Hospice in Great Falls, the Community Bible Church or the Dedman Foundation, both located in Fort Benton. Tony, the oldest of seven children, was born to Hubert and Rosemary (Stiehm) Hahn on October 1, 1933 in Springfield, MN, where he also attended school. He began life on his own at the age of 13 when he left home working various jobs before joining the service. He served with the Military Police in the Army from May, 1953 until May 1955.

After the service, Tony and his brother, Richard, traveled their way through the Dakotas down to New Mexico, working odd jobs along the way, from building dams to ranch hands.

In 1960 Tony married the love of his life, Elaine Kaus. They made their home in Iowa and Minnesota for a short time. Following the birth of two daughters, a hunting trip west, a family vacation and a job, the family packed up and moved to Missoula, MT in 1967.

After his retirement, Tony and Elaine enjoyed 20 years in Arizona where they continued their adventures in the desert and to various National Parks. Missing Montana, they relocated to Fort Benton where they were residing at the time of Tony's passing. The enjoyed 56 years together.

Tony enjoyed the out-of-doors. The family adventures began in 1970 on a month-long trip to Alaska in a 4-door Rambler Station Wagon, a tent, a Coleman cooler and camp stove. His passions were hunting, fishing and motorcycling. He enjoyed tying flies, reloading bullets for hunting, wood working and leather craft. If he wasn't out-doors he could be found "tinkering" in his well-organized shop. Tony never met a stranger, had a trickster sense of humor, loved to laugh and tell stories, some of them being retold several times. He proudly served as a Reserve Deputy for the Chouteau County Sherriff's Department for several years. He also served on the Fort Benton Search and Rescue. Above all else he was extremely proud of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Tony is survived by his wife Elaine of Fort Benton, Montana; daughter Denise (Kim) Conover of Holstein, Iowa and daughter Connie Bauman of Lolo, Montana. His grandchildren Eric and Kyle Conover, and Kyla, and Shelby Bauman; great – grandchildren, Addie and Bradley Conover. His brother Richard Hahn, one sister Clara Friese, and brother-in-law Robert Kaus; along with several nieces and nephews.
