Dorothy Jean
Withrow
December 25, 1923 – April 26, 2022
(Dorothy) Jean Withrow passed away on April 24, 2022, from natural causes at the Missouri River Medical Center.
Jean was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Fort Benton, Montana, to parents Ivy and Harris Reynolds. She attended school in Fort Benton and lived there with her family during the school months but spent her summers on the family ranch in the Highwood Mountains, along Highwood Creek. She and her brother, Don loved their summers there, where she learned to ride horses and work cattle, among other enjoyable summer pursuits.
After Jean graduated from high school in Fort Benton, she worked as a secretary in the ag office in Fort Benton for three years. Dances in the communities around Fort Benton were common and popular at that time and while attending one, she met a young farmer from Geraldine, Charles Withrow. They began dating and after a year's courtship, they married in February of 1945.
The new Mrs. Withrow moved to the Withrow farm and lived there with Chuck until his death in September of 2005. Jean loved farm and country life, therefore she continued country living for some time after Chuck's passing until she finally decided she preferred driving only on paved roads rather than on gravel and move to Geraldine.
She is survived by her two sons, Lon (Victoria) and Paul; two grandchildren, Erin and Evan (Shantel); and two great-grandchildren, twin girls, Allie Jean and Harper Diane, Evan and Shantel's children, age 3 ½ years. Jean enjoyed meeting her great-granddaughters soon after they were born.
There are no plans for services at this time. Benton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit Jean's online memorial page at www.bentonfh.com to send a card or leave a message of condolence for the family.
