Doug was born on January 7, 1955, in Worland, Wyoming, to Vernon and Ilene (Wostenberg) Johnson. He joined three older siblings, and his younger sister was born soon after. For the first few years of Doug’s life, the family remained in the Worland area, after which they moved to Cody, Wyoming, for a short time. They then relocated once more, this time to Thermopolis, Wyoming, where they remained and where Doug graduated from high school. In the mid-70s, Doug moved to Fort Benton, Montana, where he worked first for Cargill, Inc. and then for CHS. In 1996, he married Jackie Shaw, and the couple soon purchased a farm outside of Loma where they raised sheep and where Doug raised a few horses. His health began to decline, and in 2021, he moved to Front Range Assisted Living, followed by a move to Missouri River Nursing Home in 2023.

Doug was an outgoing man who loved to tease and had no filter. He had obtained his pilot’s license many years ago, and flying was one of his greatest joys. He also loved to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a talented leatherworker, and he loved horses and his border collies. In more recent years, Doug enjoyed going for rides in the car or the truck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Ilene Johnson; brother, Roger Johnson; and infant sibling.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jackie Johnson of Fort Benton; brothers, Alan (Delores) Johnson of Billings, and Ricky Johnson of Greeley, Colorado; sisters, Carol Andreen of Thermopolis, Wyoming, and Cheryl (Fred) Dowdy of Greeley, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
