Elsie Marie
Legreid
November 6, 1947 – July 2, 2018
Elsie Marie Legreid, 71, passed away unexpectedly July 2, 2018 at Missouri River Medical Center in Fort Benton. She was born November 6, 1947 in Fort Benton.
She lived in here all her life except in 1971 at age 24 she went to The Boulder River School to learn a trade. She was taught the art of doing hospital laundry. When she was done after 9 weeks she was hired at the Big Sandy Hospital in their laundry department. She worked there for about 6 months, but she was so homesick she begged her mom and dad to come and get her and that they did. As luck would have it there was opening in the laundry department at Saint Claire's Hospital in Fort Benton. With the Sisters of Providence and her best friend JoAnn "Jody" Decker she found her nitch. She started there April 4, 1972. Saint Claire's became Missouri River Medical Center in 1975 when Chouteau County took over the hospital from the Sisters.
Elsie loved her job. She was very proud making sure that the residents had clean clothes. Elsie had a very contagious laugh. It could be heard ringing down the hallways and in the laundry room.
Sometime in the mid to late 70's Elsie, Jody, and Jody's mother-in-law started a bible study at the hospital for the residents. They came every week to teach the words of God. That bible study continues today.
Elsie retired 42 years later on December 12, 2014 and boy did she miss it. On October 1, 2015 Elsie became a resident of the nursing home in which she spent her life serving others, and now it was time for others to serve her.
Elsie was very devoted to her brothers Raymond and Bobby. When Raymond died she became even more devoted to Bobby.
Elsie was a 4-H associate leader. She taught young people to cook and sew for many, many years. Elsie loved it when children came to the nursing home to visit or put on shows with their schools. She loved animals and would beam when staff or visitors brought in their pets. Dogs, cats, chinchillas, even a goat! She loved them all. She never forgot a resident or staff member's birthday. You always got a handmade card and it was usually done in your favorite color and had your favorite animal drawn on it. She will be forever loved and missed by her Missouri River Medical Center family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Ila (Ramsey) Legreid, two brothers, Raymond Legreid of Great Falls and Larry Legreid of Warroad.
She is survived by her sister, Connie M (Legreid) Robinson from Warroad, Minnesota, and brother Robert (Bobby) Legreid in Great Falls, Montana. Also survived by her sister-in-law Julie (Storey) Legreid of Warroad. Nieces and Nephews: Roberta (Robinson) & Shawn Rian, Kenneth and Wayne & Sarah Robinson, Billie, Joe & Gordie Korgel, Julie & Anthony Buldoc, Sabrina Legreid, and Laura & Ken Hill, and Great-Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday July14, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in Fort Benton at 11:00 am. There will be a fellowship at the church after the services.
