Frank "Frankie" Mayo, 89, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 11, 2018 due to natural causes. His Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Geraldine Senior Center with military honors by the Cowboy Honor Guard beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorial donations be made in Frank's honor to the Geraldine Ambulance or to a memorial of the donor's choice. Frank was born in Great Falls, Montana on June 23, 1929 to Joe and Dora (Volkman) Mayo. The family homesteaded 5 miles South of Square Butte where they raised 6 children, Frank being the 2 nd born. Frank attended school in Square Butte through the 8 th grade. Because of family illness, he dropped out of school to help run the family farm. At age 17, he joined the Navy and was assigned Head Electrician on the "USS Charles P Cecil". He was honorably discharged on April 5, 1950. Upon returning from the Navy he worked as a switchman for the Great Northern Railroad. He then returned to farming and rodeoing. He rode saddle bronc, was a pick-up man and a clown. He started his postal career as a sub mail carrier and retired in June of 1984, driving over a million miles accident free.
He married Bonnie Raty on July 9, 1952, and they lived in Square Butte, where they raised their 6 daughters.
Frank enjoyed anything that involved horses, including riding his mule, Mary Ann, into the bars. He was very competitive in the O-Mok-See's, and continued riding, farming and ranching until his death
Frank was preceded In death by his parents; his brother Jim; and his sister Doris.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie; his daughters, Danette (Jim) Andresh of Big Timber, Coral (Tom) Diede of Lambert, Karleen (Bob) Okins of Florida, Zana Rollyson of Missoula, Dora (Mike) Qunell of Geraldine, Jan (Dennis) Wishman of Geraldine; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gladys Peres of Fort Benton, Pat Leach of California, and Donna Dawson of Arizona.
