Obituary

Frederick Joseph Skierka was born in Fort Benton, MT, September 10, 1949, to John and Bernice Skierka, being the third oldest among eight children. He graduated from Chester High in 1967. Soon afterward, he joined the MT Air National Guard. At 26 he married Teresa O'Neill in Powers Lake, ND, where the two had been attracted by the traditional Latin Mass offered there by Fr. Frederick Nelson. Fred and Teresa raised twelve children on the family farm south of Chester. Fred loved the farm and poured his life's blood into it. His other passions in life
were prospecting, being out of doors, fishing with his children, grandchildren and anyone else available, going to
auctions, and working on and with anything that burned diesel. He worked hard and instilled that same work ethic in
those around him. His mind was sharp and active to the end. He entered into eternity October 15, 2022, surrounded
by his children and grandchildren.

Religion was the anchor of his life. He held firmly to the pre-Vatican II Faith, attended the Latin Mass weekly
in Black Eagle, MT and prayed the daily family Rosary from childhood until death. He was diagnosed with
amyloidosis in June and was bedridden since early September. He received Holy Communion almost daily during
this time, and was well prepared spiritually to go before God. He kissed the crucifix of his Rosary frequently in the
hours before death and whispered the holy name of Jesus.

He is survived by twelve children: Damian (Tiffany), Rev. Fr. Paul Skierka, C.S.P.V., Laura (Jim Lightner),
Stephen (Lisa), Monica (Matt Ayres), twins Rebecca (Luke Sherman) and Sr. Marie Colette, F.M. of the Daughters of
Mary, Mother of Our Savior, (Rachel), Lawrence (Katrina), Bernadette (Andrew Dube), Susanna (Ethan Schoech), Sr.
Mary Martha, F. M. (Clare), and Gregory (Regina); 56 grandchildren; 6 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa, parents John and Bernice Skierka, brother Vincent, and grandson
Mark Lightner.
