Freida Blyth Muir passed away February 11, 2026, unexpectedly from natural causes.

Freida Muir was born on August 9, 1947, to Fred and Iza (Todd) Blyth in Fort Benton, Montana.  She attended school in Geraldine, graduating from Geraldine High School in 1966.  Following high school, she furthered her education at Montana State University in Bozeman earning a bachelor's degree in education and art.

Freida enjoyed time on lakes and rivers her entire life.  While floating the river in 1967, she met the love of her life Gordon Muir, and they were married in Geraldine in 1969. In 1971, Freida started a teaching job in Cut Bank that she had for several years.  Moving back to Geraldine in the summer of 1973, they opened a butcher shop, and their first son Mark was born. While transitioning to farming, Will was born in 1977 and daughter Angie in 1981.

Freida never missed a social event in her communities of Geraldine, Fort Benton, and Augusta.  She was always willing to volunteer her time, make cookies, or bring a salad.  She was active in the Geraldine Community Church, the Tuesday Club, and the Geraldine American Legion Auxiliary.  She was a 4-H Leader for the Willing Workers for many years and continued to support 4-H and FFA.  She was active on the farm, providing many rides to move equipment and packing lunch boxes.  She always had a crafting hobby, silversmithing, toll painting, tatting, and knitting but the two she loved the most were pottery and quilting.  When she was not crafting, she was always supporting her grandkids in all of their activities.

Freida was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Iza Blyth, her sisters Beth Blyth and Blanch Engellant, and brother Alton Blyth.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gordon Muir; sons, Mark Muir and Will (Aggie) Muir and their two kids Christaen McKelvy and Dani McKelvy; daughter Angie (Will) Hucke and their two kids Arrow and Jetta.

Graveside services will be on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Geraldine Cemetery.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00 am followed by a reception at the church.  Benton Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
