Garvey C. Wood, born on May 28, 1950, in Fort Benton, Montana, to James and Norma Wood of Loma, Montana, passed away unexpectedly from cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. Garvey, known affectionately as Gar, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and community member.
Garvey grew up with his siblings Julie Bunker, Brian, Richard, and Bill Wood. In September 1970, he met the love of his life, Vivian, while attending Montana State University. They married in July 1971 in Deer Lodge, Montana, and celebrated 53 wonderful years together. Gar and Vivian adopted four of the greatest children: Virginia, Joe, Terri, and Robynn.
He had many talents and passions, working as a farmer and archaeologist. Gar found immense joy in books, movies, flying, history, learning, and sharing his wisdom with others. Gar served his community as an EMT, firefighter, and chief, as a school board member in Loma and Fort Benton, and as a 4-H leader. He was also actively involved in the Loma Museum, the United Methodist Church, Toastmasters, and the local flying club.
Gar was preceded in death by his parents, James and Norma Wood, his brother, Richard Wood, and his grandson, Noah Sherburn.
Gar's surviving family includes his wife, Vivian; sister, Julie Bunker (Ben), brother, Brian Wood (Laura), and brother, Bill Wood; children: Virginia (Jason), Joe (Jo Ellen), Terri (Cliff), and Robynn; grandchildren: Pauline Butts; Mariah and Liam O'Boyle; Tessa, Dustin, Asa, and Beau Wood; Megan, Haley, Emma, Aidan; and Jaycob Dickerson; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. Gar's love for his family was unparalleled.
