Obituary

Gary Adrian Eppers' final cast occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Bonneau reservoir, on the Rocky Boy Reservation. He died as he lived, surrounded by water and Montana's beauty. He was 84 years old.

Gary was born in Denton, Fergus County, Montana, on May 6, 1939, to Oma Dudley Eppers and George Adrian Eppers. He attended school and graduated from Fergus County High School.

On January 22, 1962, Gary enlisted in the US army. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1966, when he transferred out of active duty and into the US Army Reserves. He served at Fort MacArthur Air Force Base in San Pedro, California then in Anchorage, Alaska, before returning to Montana and serving at Malmstrom Air Force Base. He retired from his Civil Service position at Malmstrom in 1997, after 33 years of service. He then moved to Fort Benton, where he lived 7 minutes from the river (yes, he timed it!)

Gary lost the love of his life, Mary in 1969, leaving him to raise their only child, Ron, alone. He later met his second true love, Bonnie, and the couple married on July 30, 1998.

Gary was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Parents, his first wife Mary, Stepson Rick Overlie and Step-Great Granddaughter, Bridgette Hart.

Gary is survived by his wife Bonnie Eppers of Fort Benton; son Ron Eppers of Fort Benton; Grandson, RJ (Emily) Eppers US Air Force, currently stationed in New Mexico and their children Kalila, Addie, and Bryndal; Step children Ron Overlie (Shelley) of Chester, Kaloni Taylor of Fort Benton, and Laura Blankenship of Chester; brother George (Darlene) Eppers of Dillon; 9 Step Grandchildren and 8 Step Great Grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews; his best friend, Remi, his dog that was with him at his passing; and so many friends.

The river and lakes will be more bountiful places now that Gary has cast his last.
