Guy William Miser, age 69, died May 11, 2017 at Missouri River Medical Center in Fort Benton, MT.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Benton Funeral Home in Fort Benton. Visitation in Conrad will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 at the Pondera Funeral Chapel in Conrad. Guy's Funeral Liturgy will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Conrad, followed by committal and military graveside honors at Hillside Cemetery in Conrad.
Guy was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on June 3, 1947 to Dr. Robert and Helen (Campbell) Miser. The family moved to Plains, MT and then to Conrad, MT during Guy's 3 rd grade year. He graduated from Conrad High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the US Army in 1967. Guy served our country in Vietnam for 18 months. While home on leave he married his High School sweetheart Kathryn Brophy, January 11, 1969 in Valier, Montana. He received orders to be stationed in Germany and he and Kathryn moved overseas to Germany for 14 months. After his honorable discharge from military service, Guy came home and attended Montana State University from 1970 to 1972. He then attended the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science graduating in 1973.
In December of 1973, Guy began his career in funeral service, working in Missoula, Polson and Billings before purchasing the Benton Funeral Home in Fort Benton, Montana in 1979. He and Kathryn adopted their daughter Alexa in 1985. Guy and Kathryn were offered an opportunity to establish a funeral home in Conrad and opened the Pondera Funeral Chapel in 1988. They operated both firms and eventually moved to Conrad in 1990. Guy retired from his funeral career in 2013. But remained an owner until they sold both firms in 2016.
Throughout his career in funeral service Guy was appointed to serve on the Montana State Board of Funeral Service and as president of the Montana Funeral Directors Association. His life of service was dedicated to serving thousands of client families in their greatest moment of need. He was also very active in the communities that he served, including, but not limited to serving as the Chouteau County Coroner, various veterans service organizations, and was active in the Tri-County Shrine/Corvette Patrol.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathryn Miser at home, his daughter Alexa Miser (Zach Rissler), and a grandson Sage Miser all of Centennial, Colorado. He is also survived by his brothers Robert Stephen Miser of Helena and John Miser Colorado Springs, CO.
