Obituary

Henry Isaac Grossman, 99, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Missouri River Medical Center in Fort Benton, Montana. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Kit Miller officiating. His burial with military honors will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in Henry's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or to Fort Benton V.F.W. P.O. Box 363 Fort Benton, MT 59442. Henry was born April 1, 1925, to Frank and Onia (Pinkston) Grossman in Fort Benton, Montana. He was raised on the family farm in Shonkin. After high school Henry enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He took part in the invasion of Normandy and the invasion of Southern France. He met Bernice Simons while attending a Naval Gunnery School in Washington D.C. They were married after his discharge from the Navy in April of 1946.

Henry was a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Benton.  A life member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served twelve years as a Chouteau County Commissioner, and two terms on the school Board at the Shonkin Rural School. He helped organize the Shonkin Rural Fire Department and was an active member for 30 years. He also helped organize the Shonkin Indoor Rifle Club, of which he was a member for 25 years.

In his younger years, Henry and Bernice traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska and even ventured into Mexico. They spent many enjoyable years traveling with their motorhome. Henry was a true Farmer and enjoyed farm work, woodworking and working with metal. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Bernice in 2009, brother Carl Grossman, three half-brothers, and two half-sisters.

Henry is survived by his sons, Tim (Billie) Grossman, Ron (Toni Ashbaugh) Grossman. Grandchildren: Travis (Stephanie) Grossman and Jolene (Lloyd) Danbrook. Great Grandchildren: Chais (Brit) Danbrook, Jake (Molly) Willson, Bailey (Gavin) Bahnmiller, Mikkell Grossman, Treyton Grossman, Kylie Danbrook. Great-Great Grandchildren: Ryatt and Laikley Bahnmiller and Lane Isaac Willson, with a baby girl due in June. Nephews: Steve  and Darrell Grossman, Jimmy and Butch Bowers, Steven Simons and niece, Vickie (Simons) Henke, several great nieces and nephews, close family friends, Martin and Toni Molinario
