"Herman "Herk" Hankins ranks among the Capital City area all-time iconic pool players. Hankins possessed a smooth, powerful stroke, a solid bridge, and an encyclopedic knowledge of the angles. He has eyes like an eagle, hands like a brain surgeon, and the guts of a burglar. Herk mastered most of the sport's most difficult shots, including jumps and masses, and he could play all the games, 9-ball, 8 ball, 14.1 straight pool, one pocket, bank shot, etc.… Herman ran the table over a thousand times over the years, with lifetime PRs of 8 consecutive table runs in 9-ball and an 82-ball straight pool run."
Surviving him is daughter, Lorraine Hankins; stepsons, William Turner and Richard Turner; sister Peggy R (Ed) Romano and brother Roy R. Hankins.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents Arba and Peggy (Clark) Hankins; son, Loran Hankins; brother, Arba Allen Hankins and sister Betty Gertrude Hankins.
