Les was born February 6, 1956 in Fort Benton to LeRoy and Vivian (Russell) Honrud. He was born into a farming family and had 5 siblings (two sisters and three brothers). He attended schools in Loma and Fort Benton. He was an accomplished athlete and won many events in Track and Field. Les graduated from Fort Benton High School in 1974. He attended the University of Montana where he majored in Physical Education and was on the track team as an athlete and a trainer. He holds the MSU field house record in the 60 yard-dash still today. Les took some time off college and worked for Haas and Associates as a parts man and later decided to attend Northern Montana College where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in education in 1980. He then went to work in Whitefish, Montana and learned the art of cabinetry. Les became a beautiful craftsman working in a cabinet shop for about five years before returning to Fort Benton and opening Wood Doctors with Ray Allen. The two of them built and designed cabinets and remodeled homes and built garages and shops.

Les volunteered his time to coach young athletes in Fort Benton. He loved coaching and was involved in coaching football, tennis, track or volleyball for over 20 years. He was passionate about the High School Athletic Department and gave back what he could to the youth of Fort Benton. His hobbies and interests were in sports, shooting, fly fishing and wood working. He enjoyed building his own fly poles and loved to fly fish. He and his dog Mia were seen together everywhere, there wasn't a place that Les went that Mia didn't. He relaxed only when reading and enjoyed watching all comedies on television or a movie. His favorite food was a Burger Master hamburger with a milk shake or a French dip. He lived by the motto of sleep when you can, eat when you have to; however, eating vegetables wasn't required. Les was a lifelong bachelor and loved to spend time with his mom and dad. Les found out he had cancer in 2013, and struggled valiantly against it for four years. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his sister LeAnn (Jim) Bennett in 2010, and his mother Vivian Honrud in 2013.

Les is survived by his father LeRoy Honrud of Fort Benton; his sister Nanci (Craig) Skinner of Grand Rapids, MI; his three brothers: Richard (Kristine) Honrud and Donald Honrud of Fort Benton, and Russell (Leann) Honrud of Loma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
