Obituary

Rhoene Juedeman Manley was born May 26, 1933 in Bristow, Oklahoma to George and Clarice Watt Juedeman, the fourth of five children. Her parents farmed in Oklahoma, leaving in 1937 to work in California; then returned to Oklahoma to resume farming in their native state. Rudy Juedeman, George's brother, encouraged George and Clarice to move to Montana and the family arrived at their new home near Geraldine, in the Graceville country, in April 1945.

Rhoene was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1946 and was hospitalized at the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium at Galen through 1953. She was one of the first patients in Montana to be cured of that disease with isoniazid and para-amino salicylic acid. When she was released from Galen she returned to Geraldine where she was employed at the First National Bank of Geraldine.

Rhoene met Charles Robert "Bob" Manley, thanks to his best friend Francis Engellant. Rhoene and Bob were married January 16, 1957 in Reno, Nevada. They were blessed with three daughters: Tina, Teri, and Sara. Rhoene and Bob farmed at the Manley family farm near Harwood Lake, then lived in several locations in Montana while Bob worked for the Montana State Lands Department. They owned and operated a service station in Great Falls then moved back to Geraldine to farm with the Juedeman family. In 1977 they moved to Helena here Rhoene worked as a bookkeeper until the couple moved to their retirement home in Craig, Montana in 1990.

After Bob' death in 1991, Rhoene had the companionship of a family friend, Robert "Bob" Cartwright of Geraldine. They enjoyed traveling together and sharing in family functions with both sides of their families.

Rhoene was a member of the Geraldine United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Bob Goldhahn Post. She served many years as President of VFW Auxiliary until the post closed. Rhoene was known to be a loving, compassionate person who cared deeply about the welfare of family and friends and for her generous hospitality to all who entered her home. Her usual form of greeting was a warm smile and a big hug. Rhoene's greatest treasure was her family and the many friends who were loved and cared for as family.

As Rhoene's health declined she moved to Gresham, Oregon to live with her daughter, Tina, and son-in-law, Rick Heal. When she was able, she attended the Gresham United Methodist Church where she was warmly received. She died peacefully with her daughters by her side on May 24, 2018.

Rhoene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob Manley; companion Bob Cartwright; brothers, Buck and Wiley Juedeman; and sister Georgene Byrd.

She is survived by her sister, Clarene Dysart, Missoula; children, Tina and Rick, Teri and Chris, Sara and Dave; grandchildren, Matthew Heal, Jamie Schroeder, Robert Heal, and Emma and Isaac English; sisters-in-law, Delores Juedeman, Jo Alice Juedeman, and Bessie Hodan; many beloved nieces and nephews and children and grandchildren from Bob Cartwright's family.
