Obituary

Robert Lee Deck, 93, passed away at his residence on Aug. 1, 2020 with his wife of 67 years by his side.

Viewing will be Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home. His graveside service will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton.

Bob was born on July 15, 1927 to Charles and Bernice Deck in Fort Benton. He was raised on the homestead near Kershaw and attended school in Fort Benton, graduating from high school in 1947. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force National Guard and was in active duty for four years. Upon his honorable discharge from the service in 1952, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Juanita Works. They were blessed with seven children.

Bob loved anything to do with the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also collected trains; his dream was to build a huge track in the basement. He was active and instrumental in getting the Rifle Club started and the Chouteau Tractor Pull. Bob and Juanita loved to dance, especially square dancing. They traveled all over the country and met some wonderful lifelong friends. Another of Bob and Juanita's passions was traveling. They managed to visit all but one of the 50 states, making it to Hawaii five times.

Bob was a master carpenter. He built many homes in Chouteau County and several business buildings. His skill at his craft showed most in his making of clocks. He made at least 45 clocks that are all over the country, and even grandfather clocks for his children. He farmed the homestead place by Kershaw and also helped Juanita's family on their farm.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Noreen Schott; and his grandson, Jason Maughan.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; children, Alvin (Vicki) Deck, Rosalie (Ward) Scribner, Carl (Jodi) Deck, Elaine (Dave) Maughan, Rita (William) Scheele, Cheryl (Darrell) Arnold, and Jan (Randy) Wiley; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and his brother, John Deck.

Memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to FFA of Fort Benton, PO. Box 399, Fort Benton, MT 59442 or a charity of the donor's choice.
