Ronald Lee Van Horn, 90 passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the BeeHive Home in Great Falls, Montana. His graveside service with Veteran Honors will be at 12:00 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton, Montana. Memorial contributions in Ronald's honor may be made to the Montana Agriculture Museum or to a memorial of one's choice. Ronald Lee Van Horn was born March 1, 1933, at home in Rendsville Township, Stevens County, Minnesota to Harvey and Lila (Endresen) Van Horn. He was the third of seven children. He grew up in the Morris area and attended public school until the 7th grade. When he was 16, he lied about his age and joined the Minnesota National Guard unit based out of Morris. A year later he was called into active duty in Korea, attaining the rank of Corporal. He returned to the MN National Guard unit in 1952. He was very proud of his military service and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
After completing his time in the Minnesota National Guard, Ronnie moved to the Ft. Benton area of Montana in 1956. His family had visited the area when he was 12 and he fell in love with Montana. He started farming his uncle's farm outside and of Ft. Benton and continued until his retirement.
In 1963 Ronnie married LaVonne Buller. He married Helen Olson in May of 1984. They spent many good years together, traveling with their camper visiting family and friends. They were very active members of the Good Sam's Club. He loved his children, stepchildren and their children.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; and son, Brian; brother, Harlan; and sisters, Lorraine, Arlene and Carol.
He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Sue) Van Horn of Big Lake, MN, Harvey Van Horn Jr. of Morris, MN; and children and step-children: Randy (Beth) Van Horn of Big Sky, MT and Dawn Van Horn of Bloomington, MN; Richard (Joy) Van Horn, Debra (Bruce) Koehntop, Donna (Jeff Kaul) Hilsltrand, Marylin Farnsworth, Janet (Gary) Malcott, Kristine (Rick) Honrud and James Olson; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
