Ruby Idella Singer passed away July 10, 2023, three weeks prior to her 101st birthday.  She was born July 31, 1922 in Peerless, MT to Carl and Selma Lien.  She attended Peerless Schools and trained for her Registered Nursing degree from Columbus Hospital.  She worked for many years as a nurse in Jordan and Fort Benton.

Ruby served in the Army Nurse Corp during WWII.  She met her husband Robert E. Singer while they were both playing in the University of Montana band tour.  She played the trombone, piano, accordion, and the organ.  They were married December 19, 1947 in Miles City, MT.

Ruby and Robert lived in Jordan, MT until 1967 when they moved their family to Fort Benton, MT.  She resided there until her passing.  She was also a piano teacher, organist for the church, an accomplished seamstress and an avid quilter.  Her quilts occupy many homes of her children and grandchildren. In her retirement, she was involved in the Lutheran church and active member of the Senior Citizen center.  She could be found getting her walks in, even hours prior to her passing.

She is survived by her children Carleen (Joel) Kulbeck, Kim (Carla) Singer, Kathy Swensgard (Dennis Haynes), Cheryl Tope and Lynn (Tim) Adams, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Beverly James as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Selma, her husband, Robert Singer, her brothers Duane, Bernard, Elwood, Merle, Delbert, Donald and baby sister Kathryn Lien and her son-in-law Bill Tope.

Memorials can be sent to the Fort Benton Lutheran Church or a memorial of choice.

Funeral services will be held July 14th at 11:00 am at the Fort Benton Lutheran Church with graveside to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
