Russell E Panting, 81, passed away September 6, 2026, at Ruby House in Great Falls, MT.

He was born June 26, 1945, in Soda Springs, Idaho to Howard Elno Panting and Ozma Bunn Panting. The family moved to Stevensville, Montana in 1953.

Russ attended Lone Rock School and graduated from Stevensville High School in 1963. He had signed up to be a Navy guy. He left the day after graduation and spent 22 years in the Navy. After his honorable discharge, he then worked for Western States Equipment as a service technician. When he retired, he moved to Fort Benton, MT and felt at home. He referred to it as Mayberry RFD. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He met and had many friends in his 18 years there.

He is survived by Janalee McFadgen (Bruce), Natcherlie Drake and Kyle Panting (Sharon); two nieces and four nephews.

There will be a graveside service at the Veterans section of Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton with Military Honors on September 18, 2026, at 11:00 am.
