Obituary

Stanley Allen Hankins, 69, passed away at his home in Fort Benton on March 14, 2026.  A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton, Montana.

Stanley was born on June 4, 1956, to Joseph Eugene and Betty Alice (Velk) Hankins. He was the fifth of six children, all boys. He was raised on the family farm east of Fort Benton and attended school in Fort Benton, graduating from high school in 1975.

He later worked in the logging industry with his father and brothers in the Townsend, Montana, area. While there, he met and married Jan Honka in 1978. Stanley also ran the Choteau Bar and Café for his mother until it was sold. He then moved back to Fort Benton, where he resided for the rest of his life.

Stanley enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He trained hound dogs for treeing mountain lions and was very proud of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Windon Hankins; his stepdaughter, Dianne; and his son, Austen.

Stanley is survived by his son, Drew; daughter-in-law, Sharon; grandchildren, Alexis and Gage; and his brothers, Joe (Diane), Craig, Bob, and Calvin (Wendy). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
