Troy Eugene
Firman
June 9, 1967 – July 21, 2024
Troy Firman, 57, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at his home in Fort Benton.
He was born to Paul and Patricia (Bessette) Firman on June 9, 1967 in Glasgow, MT. During his growing-up years he loved fishing, playing with the cousins, and riding motorized vehicles along the Marias River on a ranch belonging to his Bessette grandparents near Loma. He needed brain surgery at age 5 that left him legally blind and in need of medications for the remainder of his life.
After his parents divorced, he relocated to New Mexico and then Arizona with his mom, and graduated from Farmington High School in Farmington, New Mexico. Troy's mother, Pat, always arranged her work schedule to drive him to school and work. Troy loved people, so his job at an electronics store propelled him into an enjoyable time in the workforce. His favorite jobs were when he owned a coffee cart in a mini-mall then the coffee shop that he owned with his mother.
In his mid-40's, he started joining his mother at church and soon thereafter truly understood that Jesus offers the only source of salvation from sin which will lead to eternal life. He became quite involved with the church retreats for men in the mountains of Arizona. Troy loved coffee, chess, cribbage, video games, gospel music, animals, simple crafts and following farming blogs. He delighted in children, and was helping a 7-year-old learn the basics of chess just a few weeks ago.
He and his mother returned to his beloved Montana five years ago when he was no longer physically able to work. Once back, Troy relished living on his own for the first time; even though Mom was only a couple floors away! His Bessette grandparents' ranch is still in the family and he enjoyed trips to his boyhood romping grounds. He attended Sunday services at Community Bible Church in Fort Benton and he shared his enthusiasm about God's word with all. He is celebrating life in its fullest now, in the presence of his savior. He is survived by his loving mother, Pat West, of Fort Benton. Aunts, uncles, cousins and their children will miss his easy smile, sharp wit and generous nature.
