He attended country school, then the family built a home in Fort Benton so the children could attend Fort Benton High School. Howard graduated in 1954, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during non-conflict time. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Fort Benton to farm with his father and brothers. He knew Florence Richard when he was in High School and they reconnected after he returned from the Army. The couple married  May 31, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Fort Benton. They made their home on the family farm and raised their children.

Howard enjoyed leatherwork, fishing, hunting and watching Westerns on television. His greatest love was for his grandchildren, he and Florence loved the time they got to spend with them.  Howard served on the Geraldine School Board for many years. He was a great neighbor always there to lend a hand when needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence in 2005 and an infant sister, three brothers; Kenneth Calvin, Robert Lee and Raymond Taylor.

Howard is survived by his three children: Debbie Taylor of Arizona, Brian Taylor and Brad ( Lisa) Taylor all of Fort Benton. Grandchildren: Sloan Taylor, Logan Taylor, Joseph Taylor and Landon Taylor all of Great Falls. One brother Paul Gary Taylor of Great Falls.
